Kwanghi Chan

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Buncrana, Co. Donegal, Kwanghi Chan discovered his passion for food while helping in his family’s restaurant from the age of eight. With over 30 years’ experience in Ireland’s hospitality industry, he has represented Ireland at culinary competitions around the world, earning numerous accolades, including a Silver Medal at the Culinary Olympics in Germany in 2008.

Kwanghi was Head Chef at the Michelin-starred Cliff House Hotel before launching East by Kwanghi in 2016, an award-winning range of premium Asian sauces, seasonings and black garlic products now stocked nationwide. He is also the founder of Bites by Kwanghi, his popular Pan-Asian food brand.

A familiar face on Virgin Media’s Six O’Clock Show, Kwanghi has been the programme’s resident chef for the past 12 years, inspiring viewers with accessible recipes that celebrate bold Asian flavours using quality Irish ingredients. Passionate about championing Irish food, he has worked closely with Bord Bia and the Irish Consulate in Hong Kong as an ambassador for Irish produce both at home and internationally.

From 2023 to 2025, Kwanghi served as Commissioner General of Euro-Toques Ireland, where he was dedicated to mentoring young chefs, supporting local artisan producers and promoting excellence in Irish food.
